Great Grandfather Earl “Pop” Armstrong-Kansas harvest with 12 mule team: circa 1920
Two Mule Malting is a 4th and 5th generation father and son partnership in northeast Kansas. We are dedicated in our search and propagation of wheat and barley species that have all but become extinct to the consumer.
Because Kansas is truly the “Napa Valley” for growing cereal grains, our work is focused on growing and selling rare varieties, especially landrace, heritage and heirloom grain and malt.
These grains offer a very unique flavor palette to the craft community, making it possible for brewers, distillers and bakers to use original ingredients that were enjoyed centuries ago.
Our goal is to share the versatility of these heritage grains in quantities that will preserve our shared agricultural birthright.
