DESCRIPTION
This is Britain’s oldest known variety on historical record, dating back to Neolithic times, and resting in significance as Scotland’s most iconic malt variety that is now primarily grown in Orkney. Known as the 90 day barley, it is planted in the spring and matures in early summer. It was the main barley used for centuries in Scotland for both bannocks and malt.
